Sometimes a great soundtrack can make a great game even better. What games do you think have the best music? My personal favorite is the soundtrack from Tales of Legendia. All of the tracks on this game are amazing. I love fighting bosses to this background music: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpkV3MHdQmoI also think Blizzard does a great job with the soundtrack for World of Warcraft. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xzt17tMBx3k&feature=related

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night: a PS1 game that used the extra storage space not for graphics but for audio. With Michiru Yamane writing the music, the result is an epic symphonic tale. The Castlevania series has a ton of great tracks in general, from early games (such as the NES games, Bloodlines, and Rondo) to the modern metroidvanias.
The whole Mega Man series: a large collection of the best melodic rock chiptunes ever. The very best among them include Wily's Fortress from MM2, Wind Man and Blizzard Man from MM6, and Abandoned Memory from MM10, and almost every robot master stage track from MM5. And then there's its spinoff series, which contain such classics as Storm Eagle's theme from MMX, Green Grass Gradation from MMZX, and Quick Man's theme from Battle and Chase.
Tail 'Gator: this obscure Game Boy game sports a very, very catchy swingy soundtrack.
Metroid Fusion: despite being a bit fuzzy coming from a GBA, Fusion's soundtrack (by Kenji Yamamoto) captures the unsettling, charged, and very dangerous atmosphere aboard the BSL space station.
The Final Fantasy series: Whether it's Nobuo Uematsu or Hitoshi Sakimoto at the helm, you get tons of great music. Let's begin with the Prelude, One Winged Angel, and Dancing Mad, and go from there. And then there are the remixes.
La-Mulana: this indie metroidvania game has lots of in-game areas, and each of them has a distinctive music track, some of which are related to each other. Every major boss also has its own theme tune. Between chiptune and orchestrated versions for each track, this soundtrack contains a lot of awesome.

Every game in that series has great music. Castlevania Judgment for the Wii had some really great remixes of tracks from old Castlevania games.

And I forgot the Chrono series, particularly Chrono Trigger. One of the most loved game soundtracks of all time, used in one of the most loved games of all time.
