Since we get a suggestion into what the club is going to watch on meeting days, I thought it would be a good idea if we collected our thoughts together ahead of time on what we want to see (and possibly at the same time, generate interest in an anime some people don't know about) Personally, for myself I would put down Wagaya no Oinari Sama (Our House's Fox Deity) Link of first episode for interest: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_STtBtY2tjY

One of the best recently made anime series I've seen is Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Although it's a magical girl series, it never degenerates into the same old plot of just waving a wand and everything turns out all right. Lots of suspense and unexpected plot twists. Great music, as well. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puella_Magi_Madoka_Magica

Another series that uses the magical girl framework as a mere jumping-off point is Uta~Kata, which becomes quite emotionally distressing, even horrifying, at times.

As for recent series, I've been watching The iDOLM@STER, which has been a surprisingly good series--I thought it'd be a junky fanservice series but it's got a lot of characterization and character development, with lots of adorableness but without excess. And it's got relatively little fanservice (which works out to be a good thing, actually). It's also got pretty good dramatic pacing/sense.

I also agree with davegulliksen! Madoka Magica is one of the best anime series I have seen lately. Most people think it's all fluff, but it gets into your head after a while!
Another I loved recently was Ao No Exorcist. I couldn't stop watching it!

I just saw episode 20 of The iDOLM@STER. Well, actually, I saw it last night, but it still feels kinda like I just watched it.
I...can't find the right words to describe how I feel. In a good way. A very good way. I will mention no spoilers. All I'll say is that, if you have doubts about the series, keep on watching. It's worth it. You might find things like episode 15 rather silly and pointless, but keep going.
When I started watching this series, I had no idea it would be this awesome. This series has thoroughly impressed me.
