They are similar. However the way they play are totally different. If I had to pick which one I would tell people to buy it would be Terraria. It feels more like a finished game.
That being said I like both games for their differences. Minecraft is way more relaxing with world wandering and the ability to turn off monsters. Where as Terraria presents a very challenging game with set goals.
I have to say I like Terraria better for multiplayer even if its clouded in negative comments.

I would have to go with Minecraft. I love both games, but in Minecraft it's a lot more fun to build. Terreria is more fun for combat and exploration.
Minecraft takes the cake for me because I love building my own houses and stuff. Over the past two weeks, my friends and I have been playing Minecraft online building a giant castle. It's only the coolest thing ever. Half of the fun is building it. No...More like two thirds of the fun is building it.

Well, for what it's worth, the social aspect of Terraria is a big thing, especially for those multiplayer servers where an entire crowd of people have built their own bases.
You've got people clamoring for more social content on the Terraria boards.

There are multiplayer servers for Minecraft too, though.
I've played both now and I still enjoy Minecraft way more. Terraria stresses me out.

Point taken.
Maybe I'll look into getting it. Still doubt my computer can run it, but maybe it can, considering how many other people are playing it.
